The teaching and provision of PE at Millfields is strong. We have invested some of our Sports Premium Funding on bringing expertise coaching into the school and now each child is receiving a term of games, dance and gym instruction from specialist, qualified coaches. Teachers are assisting the coaches during the sessions and developing their own understanding of coaching techniques. Investments have also been made to resource the curriculum and a new interactive scheme of work has been purchased.
For four years now the school have been a member school of the Colchester Primary Sports Leagues, which are a group of local primary schools that have come together to organise competitive leagues, rallies and tournament. Last year the netball team gained valuable experience competing in a number of closely fought contests, while the football team were narrow runners up in the league and reached the cup final at the Community Stadium. Additionally, the Kwik Cricket team were runners up in a competition held at the Castle park.
Sports links among the cluster schools are going from strength to strength. We meet termly and share good practice. Through the year, inter school competitions are planned, spanning the key stages in a number of sports. Last term our KS1 footballers were runners up in a cluster tournament and had fantastic fun competing.
